There are two types of lasers used in dentistry today: hard and soft
tissue lasers. The soft tissue laser is used for gingival recontouring
or lesion removal. Use of lasers allows the tissue to heal faster and
reduces swelling.
The hard tissue laser is an instrument
that may be used to trim and cut bone or teeth. Very fine cutting
can be accomplished with this instrument resulting in less
time, cleaner operating fields and reduced trauma to the
hard tissue structures.
Both soft and hard tissue laser use requires local anesthetic.
